A Poetic Affair

Where Have You Been All My Life?

The background: Many of us have been in relationships where we were hurt or disappointed and swore we'd never love again because it seemed we were not equipped to play love's game.  After healing, sometimes even before that, we take another chance on someone new and soon found that we made another mistake. This unfortunately oftentimes repeats itself, and after hurting over and over again, we decide it is much safer to go through life alone.

Then someone new appears, and we know in our heart it is the right person for us but we are scared to commit; and then when we finally do, we are happy and hopeful, and can't help but ask the question.

Where Have You Been All My Life?

Where have you been all my life?

The years were so lonely without you

Heartbreaks, deceptions, stress and strife

I have finally bid them adieu.

Where have you been all my life?

I've been a novice in the game of love

Wounded deeply as if by a knife

I prayed to God for a gift from above.

Where have you been all my life?

I wandered along life's lonely road

Doubting I'd ever find myself a wife

Now look at the gift the Lord has bestowed!

Where have you been all my life?

Please tell me you are here to stay

Problems and self doubts have been rife

Now I'm a winner in every way.

Where have you been all my life?

So contented, I have a smiling heart

Living, loving; a brand new life

Nothing, no one, will make us part.
