Thank You, Jesus!
The background: A couple years ago, I was really at a low point in my life having suffered some adversity, financially and emotionally. I was forced to look at what I had and not what I lost. I realized I was in much better shape than a lot of other people and that I should count the many blessings that God had bestowed on me. When I did that, my eyes were opened, and I found that I had to tell God thanks, in my own way, and in my own words.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
Despite everything, I'm feeling good, and I am proud
And I will give my testimony by saying this out loud.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I'll hold my head high look to the sky, and shall not bow
And I'll keep on trying there's no way I'll give up now.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
For giving me the strength and the courage to have hope
There are some who see the way out at the end of a rope.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
Things aren't good; they're bad but could've been a lot worse
I could've been the sick man who doesn't have a nurse.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I am broke, but not so broke that I cannot buy dinner
I may have lost my money but I'm still a winner.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I have to hustle hard to be able to pay my rent
But there are some who find it hard to even earn a cent.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I may only be rich in spirit, for I've lost my wealth
But unlike some poor folks I still have very good health.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I may've been duped by charismatic geniality
Still, that's better than being accused of criminality.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
For giving me the will to overcome adversity
No one's ever graduated from life's university.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
You gave me the best gift one can get, a functioning brain
That means I won't quit, and I'll be successful once again.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
For all the good things that you have done, not just for me
But for my kids, my mom, my sisters - my whole family.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
My kids are growing fine, and they know that they're special
There are kids out there with no one, and nothing parental.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
My name has been sullied by one after the other rumour
But I've survived it all with a good sense of humour.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I live in a home and when it rains I do not get wet
I could've been the unlucky runner that got left on "set".
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I've been playing the game of life, and have suffered stress and strife
But it's much better than being a man who never had a life.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
For these bad times, they've allowed me to know my true friends
And they're the ones that're always there for me when I need them.
Thank You, Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus
I could go on, and on, and this poem would continue to grow
But what I've been saying I think most folks already know.
Thank You, Jesus!
